Where did CLR 3.0 Go?

November 12th, 2008 / Tales from a Trading Desk

The PDC provide us with CLR 4.0 – a push for an environment that works together, faster with less bugs. It’s clear from the presentation that .NET just seems to be accelerating away from what Sun is doing in the Java JVM space. Here are a few highlights:

  • ContractsContracts was bound to turn up at some point in .NET given the MSR Spec# project
  • Tuple support – This should keep the Python fans happy )
  • GC Enhancements – workstation has a new background collection feature, server has Gen 2 notification
  • Corrupted State Exception
  • Threading, Parallel, Core enhancements – Parallel Extensions and ThreadPool
  • Profiling

Off topic:

  • Silverlight Testing Framework
  • If you still don’t get Oslo, this maybe a worthwhile read.
  • Oslo Tutorials – here and here
  • CCR & DSS Case Studies – what $399.95 USD gets you
  • Microsoft has two hypervisors
  • F# @ PDC
  • Prism 2.x to support Silverlight?
  • With the improvements in WF4, should I now consider it for a trade ticket UI with workflow dependencies between UI components?
  • Covariance and Contravariance in C# 4.0
  • CEP presentations (24)
