Domain-specific spellchecking

December 16th, 2005

Wouldn’t it be nice if Outlook considered all the names in the To: field as valid words when spellchecking my emails? If you’re sending email to “Bob Johnson”, why must it flag “Johnson” as a typo in the body of the message? Obviously if the email starts with “Dear Mr. Johnson”, hey, chill.

In fact, an extra benefit here would be that if I typed “Dear Mr. Jonson” by accident (or sent it to bob.jonson@example.com) then spellchecker, by catching the inconsistency, would actually be finding errors that it can’t find today.
